HMO
LEGISLATION
Legislation requires
all HMO’s to meet minimum standards
of health and fire safety. There is also
a requirement for tenancy management standards
to be met. For the inexperienced landlord
this may necessitate the use of a letting
agent.
However, prospective
landlords should be aware that each local
authority throughout Scotland may vary the
way in which the guidance for HMO Licensing,
issued by the Scottish Executive, is interpreted.
Despite such variances,
the core principles remain the same: the
provision of safe, well managed housing
for the benefit of landlords, tenants and
neighbours.
FACTS &
FIGURES
There are currently
over 5000 HMO properties in the City of
Edinburgh , either licensed or in the process
of licensing. It is believed there may be
another 1000 properties operating illegally
out with the licensing system in Edinburgh
alone. |
